Leather

Leather is a natural material, mainly obtained from the skin of goat, cow and buffalo. The raw material is purchased from the tannery which is located at Bantalla, is 20 km away from Central Kolkata. There are two types of leather we are using at EMA for our products--- Finished Leather & E.I Tanned Leather.

The Finished Leather and E.I Tanned leather comes from the skin of cow, buffalo and their calves, goat and sheep & the E.I.Tanned Leather comes from the skin of goat, cow and buff. The two fundamental processes of making leather are the Preparatory Stages and Tanning. The Preparatory Stages are performed in the tannery/factory to make the leather ready for tanning. The Finished Leather is tanned through several processes. It includes Shaving, Crusting, Dyeing, Hanging, Staking/Softening, Spraying colour, Milling, Toggling/Making the crushed sheets straight, Ironing and measuring its length, breath and height. The Finished Leather is tanned with different types of chemicals but the Shanti Leather is tanned with vegetable ingredients found in vegetable matters, tree bark and other sources. The Shanti Leather is purchased from Chennai and we get it from our suppliers.
